SA2B Chao Box Locations
I have been putting together a guide to all the Chao box locations in Sonic Adventure 2 (Battle). I am including high-quality images as well as the usual text descriptions, to make them easier to find. When complete, this information will be placed on the Chao Island website, but for now it's here to help people out.
Sonic: City Escape
Chao Box #1
The first Chao Box can be easy to miss. At some point in the level you will have to run down a long slope, with an optional series of three ramps which propel you into a lightning shield. After this, you will have to climb a long set of stairs with three enemies in a triangle formation. The Chao Box is hidden on a small alcove above and to the right of the doorway; you will need to climb on a wooden box to get to it.
Chao Box #2
Farther on in the level, you will come to a very long, twisting staircase with a rail for grinding down it. At the end of this will be a curved slope; run or spin-dash up it, and you will find the second Chao Box in plain sight.
Chao Box #3
Towards the end of the level, you will run down the side of a very, very tall building. When you reach the ground, a set of springs will instantly launch you into the air. Push forward to land on a pole and begin spinning around it. Press the jump button when the red trail is visible to swing to the next pole. Repeat this action to swing to the platform with the third Chao Box. If you got the other two boxes, this will contain a Unicorn.
Sonic: Metal Harbor
Chao Box #1
Soon after the first launch pad, you'll come across some enemies that you can use the homing attack on to reach the next platform. You can do this, or just continue past them to a spring which will launch you to the platform. Either way, you'll want to land on or jump up to the higher-up platform. Once there, just use a homing attack on the floating enemy to your right and jump across to the cylindrical platform. The first Chao Box is right there for you to open.
Chao Box #2
Soon after the first Chao Box, you'll have to use the homing attack to cross a series of floating enemies, and you will then have to use the Light Dash to cross a long chain of rings. This will take you to a very large, open area, with booster pads and planes flying over above. Proceed forwards to find a set of garages on the left; the second Chao Box is in the middle garage on ground level.
Chao Box #3
Shortly after the second Chao Box, you will have to cross another series of floating enemies with the homing attack. This will take you to a platform with a capsule of rings and the third checkpoint placed immediately before a rocket. Do not take this rocket yet; the third Chao Box is just to the right of here. If you got the other two boxes, this will contain a Phoenix.
Sonic: Green Forest
Chao Box #1
After landing from the first launch pad, you will be presented with two paths: ascending platforms on the left, or a narrow tunnel directly ahead. Proceed into the tunnel. You will soon come across a spiked enemy near a shallow pool of water; destroy it, but avoid the booster pads directly ahead of it. Instead, roll under a small hole in the right side of the tunnel. You will roll into a room with the well-hidden Chao Box.
Chao Box #2
Soon after the second checkpoint, you will be sent swinging on a vine until you land on a large platform with a hollowed-out tree on the left and three wooden boxes on the right. Continue forward and simply drop over the edge of this platform, instead of jumping up to the floating ones. The second Chao Box is hidden below.
Chao Box #3
The third Chao Box is impossible to miss. Right after the third checkpoint, you will go through a loop and then be forced to take a series of springs up to floating platforms. The Chao Box is on the second platform, right in plain sight. If you got the other two boxes, this will contain a Half Fish.
Sonic: Pyramid Cave
Chao Box #1
Shortly after the first checkpoint, you will encounter the first poles in the level that you can swing on. Instead of swinging on them, simply drop down to the floor below and collect the first Chao Box from the far corner.
Chao Box #2
Continue on in the level until you come to the spot where the Bounce Bracelet upgrade is/was. You will have to climb the high walls in front in order to proceed through the level. When you climb up to the hourglass, just look around to the right for the second Chao Box. It is hidden behind a metal box.
Chao Box #3
Requires the Mystic Melody ability. After running through a long, twisting tunnel with annoying ghosts that like to grab and bind you, you will slide under a closing door to find the third checkpoint. There is an ancient shrine positioned right next to this checkpoint; play the Mystic Melody to produce a chain of rings, and use the Light Dash to travel along these rings to a crane which pulls you up to a higher platform. It is very easy to miss the crane and fall to your death, so good luck to you! You will find a second ancient shrine on the next platform; again, play the Mystic Melody and travel along the path of rings. You will be launched into the air and you must be sure to land on the rail in front of you. It will take you directly to the third Chao Box. If you got the other two boxes, this will contain a Skeleton Dog.
